Birthday Cakes For Girls

Novelty birthday cakes that are sugar and spice and all things nice....

via Novelty Birthday Cakes by admin on 11/9/10

Birthday Cakes for Girls are a lot of fun to make and there are heaps of great ideas on what theme to use.  Of course, most girls like ‘pretty’ colours like pink, purple and pastel shades, but there are so many different options that it is always fun to try something new.

With so many ideas that it would be impossible to cover them all, but here are two tried and true themes that are based on age.  One is for younger girls, the other for older/teenager girls.

Animal Birthday Cakes for Girls

This is a great theme for little girls and can be based around their favourite animal – most little girls have at least one, if not many to choose from.  There are domestic animals (dog, cat, birds, fish), farm animals (ponies, horses, cows, pigs) and wild animals (monkeys, tigers, lions, elephants).

One great animal cake idea is a Panda Bear Cake and this video shows how to make it…

To make this cake you will need a 9 x 13 Inch Cake Pan Birthday Cakes For Girls and 2 x 8 Inch Round Cake Pans Birthday Cakes For Girls. The recipe and templates can be found by clicking here.  As they mention in the video this recipe can be adapted to any bear using different colours and features.

Fashion Birthday Cakes for Girls

Now we’re talking about the older girls who are likely to be fond of all things fashion – shoes, handbags, purses, jewellery and all sorts of accessories.  Here’s some ideas.

…or the ultimate, a Barbie and Jewellery themed cake…

Most of the fashion cakes can be easily made using a Square Cake Pan Birthday Cakes For Girls and this Birthday Cake Recipe as the base.  The cake can then be iced and decorated as creatively and colourfully as desired.

That’s a few ideas to get things started on a special cake for your little girl.  If you have any ideas, questions or comments on Birthday Cakes for Girls, please leave them below.

[singing] Old McDonald had a farm...

E-i-e-i-o!

And on this farm he had some animals:

Submitted Stacey L., made by her friend Beth

This shows that your cake doesn't have to be big, sculpted, or multi-tiered to be awesome. Love it!

With a "baa baa" here:

By the always-amazing Bakerella

They're cake balls. Unbelievably cute, fluffy cake balls.

And a "cluck cluck" there:

It's a wedding cake! How very City Slickers.

Here a "neigh:"

Made by Wrecks reader Joanne P.

There an "apple:"

Made by Heidi Miller

It was inspired by the song "Big Yellow Taxi." Gorgeous!

Everywhere a "barrel of ducks wearing cowboy hats with a bar of soap:"

Before you ask, the "water" is pulled sugar covered with piping gel. Genius.

Old McDonald...

Oops... sorry. Sometimes I get my McDonalds mixed up.

Well, finally, here's a bonus Sweet for all you Farmville addicts enthusiasts:

I'm digging those carrots.

Get it? "Digging?"

Sorry; my sense of humor is firmly rooted in puns

Get it? "Rooted?"

To Infinity and Beyond

The Toy Story movies are children's classics and the release of the last installment earlier this year has created a new round of Toy Story frenzy.

Of course, novelty birthday cakes are not exempt from this and there has no doubt been a resurgence in the requests for Toy Story Cakes.  My son has requested a Buzz Lightyear cake for his upcoming birthday and I've started to do a little research.  Here are some of the ideas I came across...

Lego Birthday Cakes

Lego is one of those timeless toys that all kids enjoy.  So why not use it as an inspiration for novelty birthday cakes.  Here's a few ideas to get you started.

  • Use upturned tea light holders to give perfect round lego knobs - see it here
  • You could build large individual lego blocks like this...

How to Make a Football Cake

This video shows how you can use cupcakes to make novelty birthday cakes in quite a different way.  The cupcakes are iced as a group, rather than individually...great idea.

This idea could be applied to a whole range of themes and patterns.  Have fun trying this idea.

Using store bought 'decorations'

Click on the link below to see a great example of using store bought bits and pieces for novelty birthday cakes

http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/coolest-toy-story-birthday-cake-design-33.html

Lollies and candy are also a cake decorators best friend.  Read more about that here...

http://www.noveltybirthdaycakes.org/cake-decorating-techniques/cake-decorating-techniques-candy-lollies

So don't think of buying 'decorations' and props as cheating when making novelty cakes, they are a great way to actually make it better, more individual and unique.

Time Lapse: Making a Treasure Chest Cake

I love the way the cake gets 'painted' - creates a great effect. Another idea for your novelty birthday cakes.

via Cake Decorating Ideas by on 7/09/10

So, my birthday was last week, a couple of my friends are graduating college and I will too a couple month after them, my ‘brother’ published his first book, I had a good semester, we had a great season at work (selling out over 85% of our shows), and I am just loving life so I decided to have not just a party, but a PIRATE PARTY to celebrate!!!! What’s a pirate party without a chest full of booty?! I decided to make one and it turned out AMAZING. Its has vanilla on the bottom and chocolate on the top, coated with organic homemade buttercream icing, homemake fondant, and organic sugar sand at the bottom. The cake was made with about 70% organic ingredients. It took me three days to complete and about 20 hours of hard work. I am very proud. Btw, this was only my 3rd cake I have ever made in my life! I am the master!!!!

Not All Cakes Are 'Baked'

Watching the below video immediately made me think how not all novelty birthday cakes need to be baked.

Of course...novelty birthday cakes can be made from ice cream as well.  It would be more about 'moulding' than baking - maybe not as daunting for some people.  Also no need to fiddle around with icing.

Maybe you could try using ice cream for your next novelty birthday cake.  Or have you already tried this?  Please let us know.

Coffee Lover’s 60th Birthday Cake

Here is a great example of thinking laterally for novelty birthday cakes. It shows that the best ideas can often come from knowing what the birthday girl or boy (or man or woman) really likes.  So take some time to do your homework on the guest of honour to come up with some great ideas for your cake.

60th Birthday Coffee Cup Cake

We have a very special birthday cake here. It’s for my father-in-law’s 60th birthday. It features “Papa Jesse” sitting on a coffee cup. He loves Dunkin’ Donuts and we put all of the things he likes to do flowing out of the coffee cup including golf clubs, a tennis racket, a history book and chocolate chip cookies.

Heapin Donuts Coffee Cup Cake

On top of the cake it says Heapin’ Donuts. Happy Birthday Pappa Jesse!

Here’s a video of the cake I shot at the shop:
